How to remove a broken bolt

Make sure you get a propane torch. The guy at Home Depot first got me to buy a butane one(guess he thought I was cooking). We tried using it, but it wasn't working, so back to the store I went.

We also tried a wrench and other tools, but this process, if using the wrong tools will not work. The tool shown saved the day!

After heating the broken bolt until red hot then letting cool, we used the vice grips to get a good grip on it and work it loose. Sometimes we would use a back and forth motion.

We had to heat the bolt up multiple times, depending on the bolt, maybe up to 7 or 8 times. We had 3 broken bolts to remove. This process worked each time!

And heating again!! Then letting it cool and take the vice grips to it again. The goal is to break up the corrosion between, in this case, the steel bolt and the aluminum lawn furniture.

And again. Still wasn't coming loose completely, but had made some progress and saw some new threads coming out.

Success!!!!!
